Where do I park?
Parking is available in the church parking lot across the street from the church.
Is the church handicap accessible?
There is a ramp leading to the right-hand front door of the building. Passengers can unload in the driveway next to the Southern District office (this a shared driveway with St Nicholas Orthodox Church).
What should I wear?
Our dress code is casual, please wear what you are comfortable in. Your presence is more important to us than how you dress.
What can I expect when I get inside?
You will be greeted by one of our members when you enter the narthex. You can pick up a bulletin on the small table at the end of the center aisle. The ushers will show you to a seat, or you may sit where you like. The service begins with music and follows the order listed in the bulletin.
We usually practice communion on the first Sunday of each month and at other special services. If you attend a service that has communion, you can follow the order in the bulletin. You are welcome to participate in communion by going with others to the altar and accepting the bread and juice representing the body and blood of Jesus Christ. In the Methodist Church, the sacrament of Holy Communion is open to all who believe in Christ, whether or not you are a member of the church.
What about children?
Children are special at Beckley Community UMC. Early in the service, our Diaconal Minister or other member will invite all children to come to the front of the church for a special message.
Once the children’s sermon is finished, the children are invited to go with adult leaders to children’s church or go back and sit with their parents. Children’s church takes place in classrooms near the sanctuary where adult leaders tell them Bible stories and offer activities.
